What is the MPAA?

We acknowledge the Motion Picture Association of America MPAA movie rating system, which includes G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17 rated movies. Founded in 1968, the Motion Picture Association of America provides parents with useful information about the types of content their children might be exposed to when seeing a particular movie at the theatre. The rating system does not provide opinions regarding the quality of any individual film—nor does it promote censorship. Rather, it is designed to work as an objective, nonspecific content summary to help guide parents in their decision of whether to allow their children to consume various elements of the picture. Difficult themes, coarse language, violence, sex, nudity, and drug use are among the most common content areas associated with the rating system. The MPAA rating system is not a law or set of laws—it’s simply a set of suggestions.

When searching for listings on cinemark.com/movies, you may narrow your search by movie rating, if you wish.
