About Adam Sandler
BIO, MOVIES, and CAREER
Adam Sandler. Adam Richard Sandler. Where to begin? Hilarious, endearing, irreverent, iconic, prolific—all would be great places to start. Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire, Sandler is known to many as “The King of Comedy,” and is about as American as apple pie—if that piece of pie threw on a hockey jersey, grabbed an acoustic guitar, and serenaded an audience of millions with a rhyme-laden tune.
One thing about Sandler: There’s truly something for everyone.
There’s a Sandler for the sketch comedy purist, with SNL characters like Opera Man and his legendary “Weekend Update” appearances. There’s a Sandler for people craving 90s nostalgia— timeless classics like Happy Gilmore (1996), Billy Madison (1995) and The Wedding Singer (1998). There’s even a Sandler for the film buff: Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love (2002) and Uncut Gems (2019), by Josh and Benny Safdie, are two of Sandler’s most serious and lauded roles.
In 2019, after a slew of star-studded streamers for Netflix, Sandler returned to Saturday Night Live to host an episode of the show that put him on the map. In it, he performed a touching tribute to longtime friend Chris Farley, a piece for which Sandler would ultimately be awarded his first Primetime Emmy Award. In 2023, Sandler expanded his trophy shelf once again, receiving the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, an award presented by the Kennedy Center to individuals who have made a powerful, lasting impression on American life through the art of comedy.
Some of his projects are more beloved than others—Jack and Jill (2011) is considered by some to be the “worst movie ever made.” But hey—one thing’s for certain: Sandler loves what he does, and he’s always been willing to take risks. If Adam Sandler were anything but himself, we might not have such a vast, varying body of work to look back on. Lucky for movie-lovers, he’s still churning out new projects, with no end in sight. There’s so much more Sandler to love, hate—and everything in between—to come.

Few things are as magical as enjoying a movie on a big screen, in a dark theatre surrounded by fellow film-lovers. There's a delightful anticipation as the lights dim and everyone gets ready to experience something entertaining and exciting, and perhaps even discover a new favorite movie.
In the years since Adam Sandler first shaba-dooed his way into our hearts on "Saturday Night Live," he has turned his early comedy ideas, which cast him as a lovable goofball caught up in outrageous situations, into virtually its own genre.
