“As winter break begins, a group of sorority sisters, including Jess and the often inebriated Barb, begin to receive anonymous, lascivious phone calls. Initially, Barb eggs the caller on, but stops when he responds threateningly. Soon, Barb's friend Clare goes missing from the sorority house, and a local adolescent girl is murdered, leading the girls to suspect a serial killer is on the loose. But no one realizes just how near the culprit is…”
Inspired by the urban legend "the babysitter and the man upstairs,” Black Christmas is considered the first modern slasher movie and highly influential on the genre as it went on to inspire Halloween, Friday the 13th, and countless others. It’s also credited as the first horror movie to use the “the call is coming from inside the house” trope!
Fun fact: Black Christmas was directed by Bob Clark who directed another-yet-very-different Christmas classic 10-years-later...A Christmas Story!
