In the TV series "Normal People" it was obvious that Daisy Edgar-Jones is destined to be a star. She has an uncanny ability to give us a clear view into the heart and soul of a character. Likewise, the appearance by Taylor John Smith in the series "Sharp Objects" heralded the development of a young actor who had been honing his chops for several years.
When the two were among the key actors cast in WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING, we knew the movie could be a great one. Daisy Edgar-Jones plays Kya, who grew up alone in a North Carolina marsh after being abandoned by her family. She is befriended by young Tate Walker in childhood, and when they reconnect as young adults (with Walker played by Taylor John Smith), the two renew their relationship. There's just one problem: Kya is accused of murdering another young man whose body has been found in the marsh.
Actually, that's a pretty big problem.
We got the chance to talk with the two young stars, who told is about their characters and their different approaches to bringing them to life. Being in a real marsh helped; having an excellent script by Lucy Alibar, based on the best-selling book, was a boon as well.
