Alice Walker's novel "The Color Purple inspired a movie which inspired a stage musical — and now that musical has become a new movie, directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Blitz Bazawule. The only way things could go more "full circle" would be for Walker to write a new novel based on the movie.
THE COLOR PURPLE features an astonishing cast, with Fantasia Barrino as Celie, Taraji P. Henson as the singer Shug Avery, Danielle Brooks as Sofia, Colman Domingo as Celie's domineering husband, Mister, and Corey Hawkins as Harpo Johnson — to name just the top names on the call sheet.</p/>
They create a version of the story that is more faithful to Walker's vision, and more boisterous and dynamic than Steven Spielberg's original (and still impressive) movie adaptation.
