Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins and the Foo Fighters veer into comedy and horror the new movie STUDIO 666. We got to talk to the band about their experience making the bloody funny haunted house movie — and it turns out it's not so far from the experience of everything else they've done as a band for the past 25 + years.
"The best part of being in this band," Grohl said, "is making records and making songs and going out and playing live. That’s the best part. But in those off hours, it’s really fun to think of other ways to get together and do something we’ve never done before."
They’ve made wildly imaginative videos, after all, and Grohl has made a documentary movie (SOUND CITY). But still, this got to be bigger than planned. “Honestly, we never imagined that it was going to become this big full-length feature film. We thought it would be this really mellow low-budget slasher that we would make in a week or something.”
"It's what makes being the band fun, that we're not afraid to do something like this," Grohl says.
Ultimately the process of acting was also pretty much in line with what the band already does. With the script and scene outline in hand, Taylor Hawkins says, “we just kind of start making fun of each other, and screwing with each other, trying to make each other laugh.”
