Actor Michael B. Jordan and filmmaker Ryan Coogler came up together. Beginning with FRUITVALE STATION, moving on to CREED and then to BLACK PANTHER, the duo quickly moved from indies to the big leagues with just a few strides. (That's how it looked to us, anyway; it was probably a lot harder than we're making it sound.)

Now Jordan and Coogler return with the mysterious horror movie SINNERS. We know that Jordan plays twin brothers, and that the movie is a period piece set in the early 20th century. Warner Bros. has pitched it as "a new vision of fear," and now the new trailer seems to reveal vampires and a big central conflict. Check it out below.

What Is the Sinners Release Date?

Warner Bros. Pictures will release SINNERS in movie theaters on April 18, 2025.

Watch the New Sinners Trailer

While the first trailer was all about images and a sense of encroaching horror, this one is a lot more explicit. There are vampires! And, seemingly, a brother-against-brother setup that will give Michael B. Jordan a chance to fight himself. And there's even a hint at one of the oldest supernatural American folk tales.

What Is the Plot of Sinners?

The new trailer makes the plot of SINNERS seemingly pretty clear. The characters played by Jordan — or at least one of them — opens a dance hall in a small town. When some of the residents object to the good times being had there, they do so in a violent and bloody fashion.

Officially, the synopsis is: "Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back."

Is That Robert Johnson in Sinners?

Robert Johnson was one of the greatest blues musicians — maybe the greatest one. He's certainly among the most influential and iconic. Johnson roamed around the South playing music in places exactly like the juke joint seen in SINNERS.

One of the most famous stories about Johnson says that part of his musical prowess was the payment for selling his soul to the Devil at some rural crossroads. Which (a) obviously isn't true and (b) steals the credit for Johnson's musical ability. He was a good player who got better by playing and performing all the time!

Regardless, one character seen in the trailer sure does look as if he is at least inspired by Johnson. And if the movie wants to lean into the story of his Devilish pact as a way to get vampires into the story, we wouldn't mind.

Who's in the Cast of Sinners?

Clearly, Michael B. Jordan is the star of the show as brothers Elijah and Elias. Alongside Jordan is an array of heavy hitters including Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson, and Delroy Lindo.

The cast also features Li Jun Li, Lola Kirke, Yao, Miles Caton, Peter Dreimanis, Christian Robinson, and Jermaine Mctizic.

SINNERS opens on April 18.
