PREY FOR THE DEVIL follows Sister Ann, who starts off as an observer of apprentice exorcists but soon finds herself in direct conflict with a controlling demon.
We talked to Jacqueline Byers, who plays Sister Ann, and Christian Navarro, who appears as Ann's comrade-in-crucifixes Father Dante. The first thing we learned — and this seemed to surprise the actors, too — is that exorcism is really big right now, and not just on the silver screen.
"Exorcisms are at the highest rate ever in the history of the world right now," Byers said, "which is terrifying and comes out at the beginning of this film."
PREY FOR THE DEVIL is absolutely a movie focused on horror, but it has a humanist center compared to some other approaches to the subject. "The whole point of this movie is that she's bringing a whole new approach to exorcism," Byers says of Ann. The point being that "the person gets [forgotten] in the process" of performing the rite, as all the focus is on the demon."
