MEAN GIRLS modernizes the original 2004 movie and injects musical numbers drawn from the Broadway musical version of the story. With original writer Tina Fey on board both as writer and a supporting actor, new directors Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. have crafted both a tribute to the original movie that is both affectionate and sharp-tongued.
We talked to Jayne and Perez, as well as co-stars Auli'i Cravalho and Jaquel Spivey, to learn about the new generation of Plastics and the demands of revamping the classic movie as a full-fledged musical production.
