Inside Out 2 Brings New Emotions Into Pixar's Series

11/8/2023 • 4 min read

(Updated 11/13/2023)Inside Out 2 | Cinemark

We met the pre-teen Riley in INSIDE OUT, the 2015 Pixar movie that still stands as one of the studio's best films. We also met the emotions that collaborated and occasionally conflicted as they defined Riley's life experience: Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust.

Now, INSIDE OUT 2 is coming. Riley is older, just becoming a teenager. Anyone who parents or has known a teen realizes that means a surge in unpredictable new behavior and the emergence of complex new emotions.

The first INSIDE OUT 2 trailer reveals one of the new emotions that seeks to run Riley's life. Check it out, and we'll tell you everything else we know about Pixar's next movie.

When Does Inside Out 2 Come Out?

Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures will release INSIDE OUT 2 on June 14, 2024.

The First Inside Out 2 Trailer Introduces Anxiety

This teaser trailer for INSIDE OUT 2 serves to remind us of the first movie, and reintroduces the original lineup of emotions. And then Anxiety shows up. We all know how that goes.

The official synopsis says, "INSIDE OUT 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who've long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren't sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she's not alone."

What's the Inside Out 2 Trailer Song

Halfway through the first INSIDE OUT 2 trailer, "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne kicks in. We don't hear a lot of the 1980 tune, but do get enough of it to understand the chaos that might characterize this new period in Riley's life.

Who's in the Cast of Inside Out 2?

The new movie features a mix of returning and new cast members. Amy Poehler returns as Joy, Phyllis Smith is back to voice Sadness, and Lewis Black once again voices Anger. Tony Hale replaces Bill Hader as Fear, and Liza Lapira replaces Mindy Kaling as Disgust.

And Maya Hawke is a new arrival, voicing Anxiety. The end of the trailer suggests we might also meet Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment in the new movie but no actors have been announced for those roles.

In the original movie, Kaitlyn Dias played Riley and Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan voiced her parents. We don't know if they're back for the sequel. We expect to learn more soon.

The Filmmakers Behind Inside Out 2

The original INSIDE OUT was directed by Pete Docter. The sequel is directed by Kelsey Mann, making his feature directorial debut. Mann has worked in animation for a long time, and directed the short "Party Central" for Pixar back in 2013.

INSIDE OUT 2 written by Meg LeFauve, who was also a writer on the original movie. She has also scripted THE GOOD DINOSAUR, CAPTAIN MARVEL, and the Netflix animated feature MY FATHER'S DRAGON.

INSIDE OUT 2 opens in June.
