In the thriller FATALE, a married sports agent (Michael Ealy) finds his life completely turned upside-down after a one-night stand with a mysterious woman (Hilary Swank) who turns out to be a police detective who is out for vengeance. The man will risk his family, career, and even his life to try and put the pieces of his life back together before the detective outs him to his wife.
We had a chance to speak with FATALE cast members Hilary Swank, Michael Ealy, and Mike Colter, and director Deon Taylor. The filmmaker talked about how he wanted this story to be an homage to the classic thrillers of his generation, Taylor said, "I’m a '90s junkie, in terms of all the Body Heat’s and Fatal Attraction’s. So it really grabbed me because I was actually looking for something in that space.”
Hilary Swank stalked about how stepping into the shoes of this character was unlike any other experience, saying, “diving into a character that has so many layers and gradations to those layers is an actor’s dream.” She added, "I haven’t done a role like this in the twenty-nine years of my career."
Her co-star, Michael Ealy, shared that same love for his character but also talked about the difficulties of having such high emotional stakes each day on set. "It was stressful," he said. "I can’t lie. There were days where I was very grateful that my life was not like my characters."
Ealy also spoke about how all the characters in the film have a common bond, saying, “Nobody is clean. Everybody has their agenda, and everybody has something they want to get but at the same time everybody has something they want to hide, and that’s more real than anything I’ve ever seen on screen."
The whole cast agreed that a movie like FATALE needs to be experienced in a Cinemark theater! Mike Colter said, "It’s like watching a painting. A painting has so much detail, and rich nuance and color, texture. The larger, the more you can appreciate it." Hilary Swank added, "It’s meant to be seen on the big screen!"
