Ever since we were wowed by Olivia Wilde's directorial debut, BOOKSMART, we have eagerly awaited her next movie. Now it is on the way! DON'T WORRY DARLING reteams Wilde with her BOOKSMART writer Katie Silberman, with a cast that includes Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. Those details on their own might be enough to make the movie a must-see for some readers.
DON'T WORRY DARLING is a hybrid horror/sci-fi/metaphysical thriller in which Pugh plays a woman in the 1950s who begins to realize that her existence is very different from what she had assumed it to be. The new trailer for DON'T WORRY DARLING was just released. We have it here for you to check out, along with everything else we know about the movie.
Watch the New Don't Worry Darling Trailer
This new trailer has more unsettling and strange images than we've seen from the movie so far. (If you want a slightly more controlled trailer, check out the first one.) This new trailer is frankly dizzying as it pulls us into the dissolution and uncertainty experienced by Pugh's character.
But what is DON'T WORRY DARLING about, exactly? The studio says,
Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles) are lucky to be living in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. The 1950’s societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank (Pine)—equal parts corporate visionary and motivational life coach—anchors every aspect of daily life in the tight-knit desert utopia. But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why. Just how much is Alice willing to lose to expose what’s really going on in this paradise?
Chris Pine Is a Grand Villain
It is so much fun to watch Chris Pine break bad. He's great as a hero, obviously, but his "grey zone" characters, and his rare turns as a bad guy, are just delightful. He brings such an intensity to being a terrible person.
Obviously, at this point we're not certain that Pine is the villain of DON'T WORRY DARLING, but this new trailer certainly positions him as a Machiavellian antagonist. And he looks absolutely vicious.
The Cast of Don't Worry Darling
We've got Pugh and Styles and Pine, and that's a brilliant trio. Olivia Wilde appears, too, as another resident of Victory. There's also Gemma Chan and KiKi Layne. Furthermore, Nick Kroll, Sydney Chandler, Kate Berlant, Asif Ali, Douglas Smith, Timothy Simons and Ari’el Stachel are in the movie. Frankly, seeing Nick Kroll in a movie like this is a very appealing bonus aspect!
