Don't Breathe 2: Everything You Need to Know About the Blind Man's Return

7/13/2021 • 3 min read

It’s been five years since we first met the blind and very dangerous Norman Nordstrom, in Fede Álvarez’s movie DON’T BREATHE. That film, which focused on a gang of young thieves who break into the wrong blind guy’s house and pay dearly for that error, was very much a horror feature with Nordstrom as a villainous killer. Yes, he may have been defending his home, but you could say he over-defended it just a tad. And with the third act reveal of the secret hidden in his basement, all thoughts of siding with the guy went out the window.

But you cannot keep a good bad guy down. And as such, Nordstrom is back. This time, it looks like he’s going to be just a tiny bit more likable. In fact, the Blind Man is the central character, perhaps even the protagonist, of DON’T BREATHE 2. And instead of focusing on horror, DON’T BREATHE 2 appears to be more of an action film. Here's everything we know about the sequel so far.

Watch the Don’t Breathe 2 Trailer!

The first trailer for DON'T BREATHE 2 arrived not long ago, and you can check it out above.

As you can see, this looks like a very different movie than DON’T BREATHE just in terms of genre. Normal Nordstrom is still killing the heck out of everyone, but this time he has a good reason. Now, instead of being like a blind Jason Voorhees, he’s more like a blind Bryan Mills from TAKEN! That said, we have a lot of questions and this trailer answers only a few of them.

What Is Don’t Breathe 2 About?

The movie takes place eight years after the first DON’T BREATHE. Norman Nordstrom is a bit more relaxed this time, perhaps thanks in part to his adopted eleven-year-old daughter, Phoenix. But there is something mysterious and special about Phoenix, which may be why she is abducted by sneaky villains.

As a result, Nordstrom has to go after her abductors to get revenge and also save the only family he knows. Of course, the kidnappers are likely to underestimate him because he is old and blind. And of course, they are going to learn the hard way what a crucial mistake that is. But what will we learn about all of these characters — and is the blind Nordstrom really the hero?

Who's in the Don’t Breathe 2 Cast?

Fortunately, the great Stephen Lang reprises his role as Norman Nordstrom. It may be that the character is a nicer guy this time, but that doesn’t mean he’s anywhere near what we would call “nice”. It's a pleasure to see Lang back in a starring role; we love all of his screen appearances.

Phoenix is played by newcomer Madelyn Grace, making her feature debut. The movie also features ‘90s fave Brendan Sexton III (BOYS DON'T CRY, EMPIRE RECORDS, "Russian Doll").

Who Directed Don’t Breathe 2?

While the first film was directed by EVIL DEAD’s Fede Álvarez, directing duties this time fall to DON’T BREATHE co-writer Rodo Sayagues, who makes his directorial debut with the movie. Álvarez did co-write the script with Sayagues, however. Producers Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert also worked behind the scenes, and Raimi called the script "the greatest idea for a sequel that I've ever heard," which is enough to have us very curious about what surprises await.

So if you’re concerned that a new director and different narrative direction mean this movie won’t have any of the grit that made DON’T BREATHE so special, it seems like there's no be. This is still the same overall team that brought us the first film. And based on that trailer, DON’T BREATHE 2 might end up being even more gnarly than part one.
