The next sequel to A QUIET PLACE is a prequel. In A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE, we'll follow a set of (mostly) new characters as they try to survive the first incursion by sound-sensitive monsters. There's one problem: They're in one of the loudest places on Earth, New York City. How do you stay safe by being quiet in a city that never sleeps?
The trailers for DAY ONE begin to show how that might work — or at least they show how incredibly difficult it will be. Additionally, we can share more details about the movie, including the main cast and creative team. Here's everything we know about A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE.
What's the A Quiet Place: Day One Release Date?
A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE is set for release on June 28, 2024, from Paramount Pictures.
Watch the New A Quiet Place: Day One Trailer
The new trailer for A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE provides a big overview of the story, as you'd expect, and also gives us our first real sense of what the main character is like pre-invasion as she defends carrying her cat into a bodega.
The trailer also does more to show that much of the movie could be a two-hander that follows characters played by Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn.
Who's in A Quiet Place: Day One?
Most of the cast of DAY ONE is new to the series. Lupita Nyong'o (US, BLACK PANTHER) plays one of the key characters, and she's joined by Joseph Quinn ("Stranger Things"), as well as Alex Wolff (HEREDITARY) and Denis O'Hare ("American Horror Story," "The Nevers") We don't know much about any of their roles. But having seen trailers showing Nyong'o and Quinn's character trying to evade the first wave of monster attacks, we can surmise that all play desperate people trying to stay alive.
One familiar returning cast member is confirmed, however. Djimon Hounsou, who played the leader of a small group of survivors living on an island in A QUIET PLACE PART II, is back. We don't know if that means these characters end up on the same island, or if we'll meet Hounsou's character before he retreated to that isolated spot.
Who Directed A Quiet Place Day One?
While the first two A QUIET PLACE movies were directed by John Krasinski, who also starred in the first, he is currently getting ready to release another movie called IF. Krasinski did come up with the story for DAY ONE, which was scripted by Jeff Nichols (MUD, MIDNIGHT SPECIAL) and Michael Samoski (PIG).
In fact, Sarnoski directed A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE in addition to writing the script. His movie PIG, which starred Nicolas Cage and DAY ONE co-star Alex Wolff, was a surprising and lovely little movie that won over audiences and critics alike. He's not the first person we would guess might direct a movie like this one — but John Krasinski wasn't who we would assume might make the first two movies in this series, either!
Will There Be A Quiet Place Part 3?
Yes, A QUIET PLACE 3 is in development right now. Paramount likes the idea of expanding the story beyond the confines of the core movies, as we see here. But Krasinski has been developing a third movie to continue the central story of the Abbott family. Further news will likely have to wait until after DAY ONE is released, however.
A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE opens on June 28.
