Last Christmas: Exclusive Interview With Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding

(11/07/2019)

In Last Christmas, Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding play two very different people who fall into an unlikely romance. Kate (Clarke) is a frustrated singer who has allowed her dreams to molder while she works a menial job in an all-year Christmas shop. Tom (Golding) is dashing and full of life, and when Kate literally falls into his life, Tom becomes exactly the person she needs.

We spoke to stars Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding at the film's press day, where Golding gushed about LAST CHRISTMAS director Paul Feig, with whom Golding also worked on 2018's A SIMPLE FAVOR.

"[Paul Feig] is amazing. It's my second time filming with him. He's one to let you breathe. He knows what he wants, but he allows us as actors to explore the scene. Once we're on set, on the day, we find those little intricacies, the beats, the comedy, and emotion — it's a joy to work with Paul."

Clarke is best known for playing Daenerys Targaryen on "Game of Thrones," but her LAST CHRISTMAS character couldn't be more different. She's at a transitional time in her life, to put things mildly, and has more than a few problems. "I've tried, with all my might, to control my ability to be a little bit of a mess," Clarke laughed, "so it was glorious to just go "oh whatever!" and be more Kate-like." That said, "she's not messy for no reason — that character development and the arc she goes through are really fun to play. But in the beginning, just letting it all hang out — great!"
