Birds of Prey: Exclusive Interview With Star Margot Robbie and Director Cathy Yan

(02/06/2020)

Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) returns to the big screen in the action-packed BIRDS OF PREY, as she teams up with superheroes Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) to save a young girl from an evil crime lord Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor). We spoke to the cast, and director Cathy Yan, to get an insider's view of the movie.

Star and producer Margot Robbie sets up what to expect from this version of DC’s beloved anti-hero.

“You’re seeing Harley not in a relationship with the Joker anymore. She’s really trying to step out of his shadow and be her own independent woman… and she’s not doing it gracefully.” Margot Robbie told us. She added that she believes Harley, “somewhere along the line, realizes she more powerful than she gave herself credit for, and certainly more powerful than he (The Joker) ever gave her credit for.”

It’s called “Birds of Prey” for a reason, as the movie showcases the dynamic of its fantastic ensemble. The cast weighed in on what makes this film so fun to experience in Cinemark Theaters. “It’s a wild ride start to finish.” Mary Elizabeth Winstead added, “You want to see it with a crowd… it’s spontaneous, it’s unpredictable, it’s wild, it’s weird, it’s funny, it’s violent!” Her castmate and fellow Bird Of Prey Jurnee Smollett-Bell chimed in, “It’s an event!”

Even Director Cathy Yan is in awe of how visceral the BIRDS OF PREY experience can be. “It’s so big and immersive.” she added, “There are layers and textures, and little funny nods and funny moments that you need to see it on the big screen to capture.”
