From PRINCESS MONONOKE to SPIRITED AWAY, the Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli has created some of the greatest animated movies in history. Many, including the two mentioned above, were directed by Hayao Miyazaki. For many years, home video was the only way to see these movies. Unless you were lucky enough to see them in their original theatrical runs, there were basically no opportunities to enjoy them on the big screen.
That has changed thanks to GKids! Each year, the animation distributor brings a collection of Studio Ghibli movies back to the big screen, in both their original Japanese versions, subtitled in English, and in English-Dubbed versions.
This year, Studio Ghibli Fest 2024 presents a 14- movie lineup. It's the biggest program to date from GKids. Here are all the Studio Ghibli 2024 movies.
Spirited Away
Winner of the Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature, Hayao Miyazaki’s wondrous fantasy adventure is a dazzling masterpiece from one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the history of animation. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind 40th Anniversary
Celebrating its 35th anniversary, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Hayao Miyazaki, is an epic masterpiece of sweeping scope and grandeur that remains one of the most breathtaking and exhilarating animated films of all time. Castle in the Sky
Castle in the Sky is a timeless story of courage and friendship, with stunning animation from acclaimed Academy Award®-winning director Hayao Miyazaki. This high-flying adventure begins when Pazu, an engineer’s apprentice, spies a young girl, Sheeta, floating down from the sky, held aloft by a glowing pendant. Both Sheeta and Pazu are searching for the legendary floating castle, Laputa, and they vow to travel there together to unravel the mystery of the luminous crystal. But their quest won’t be easy, as soon they are being pursued by greedy air pirates, the military, and secret government agents, who all seek the power Sheeta alone can control. The Secret World of Arrietty
The Clock family are four-inch-tall people who live anonymously in another family's residence, borrowing simple items to make their home. Life changes for the Clocks when their teenage daughter Arrietty is discovered. [June 9 and 11]
When Marnie Was There 10th Anniversary
Anna, a shy 12-year-old girl, is sent to spend time with her aunt and uncle who live in the countryside, where she meets Marnie. The two become best friends. But Anna gradually discovers that Marnie is not quite who she appears to be. [June 10 and 12]
Princess Mononoke

Ponyo
Perfect for audiences of all ages, Ponyo centers on the friendship between five-year-old Sosuke and a magical goldfish named Ponyo, the young daughter of a sorcerer father and a sea-goddess mother. After a chance encounter, Ponyo yearns to become a human so she can be with Sosuke. As to be expected with Miyazaki, the film is awash in pure unbridled imagination and visual wonder — but it is the tender love, humor, and devotion exhibited by Ponyo and Sosuke that form the emotional heart of the film. Whisper of the Heart
A chance encounter with a mysterious cat sends Shizuku, a quiet schoolgirl, on a quest for her true talent. Together with Seiji, a boy determined to follow his dreams, and enchanted by The Baron, a magical cat figurine who helps her listen to the whispers of her heart, Shizuku embarks on a life-changing adventure that takes her beyond the boundaries of her imagination. The Cat Returns
Haru is walking home after a dreary day of school when she spies a cat with a small gift box in its mouth crossing a busy street, and she jumps in front of traffic to save the cat from an oncoming truck. To her amazement, the cat gets up on its hind legs, brushes itself off , and thanks her very politely. But things take an even stranger turn when later that night, the King of Cats shows up at her doorstep in a feline motorcade. He showers Haru with gifts, and decrees that she shall marry the Prince and come live in the Kingdom of Cats! [August 26 and 28]
Howl's Moving Castle 20th Anniversary

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

My Neighbor Totoro
From the legendary Studio Ghibli, creators of Spirited Away and Ponyo, and Academy Award®-winning director Hayao Miyazaki, comes a classic tale of magic and adventure for the whole family. When Satsuki and her sister Mei move with their father to a new home in the countryside, they find country life is not as simple as it seems.
