Superhero films and special effects-heavy blockbusters are massively popular, and the reasons aren't surprising. They give us the chance to explore exciting new worlds and meet larger-than-life characters.
If you're looking for spectacle on a more human scale, there are exceptional new movies that fit the bill, too! Fall is the perfect season for the audience that wants something different. As the year's big-budget releases start to wind down for the year, let’s take a look at movies coming to Cinemark which are perfect for anyone who isn't interested in blockbusters, or just wants to see a classic-style story on the big screen.
Oppenheimer
Obviously this was a summer release, and one of the year's biggest movies at that. Christopher Nolan's super-sized drama is still packing houses. When 2023 is all said and done, OPPENHEIMER will stand as one of the most exciting films of the year — and we're sure that we'll be talking about it for a long time to come. [Now Playing]

A Haunting in Venice
Think of this less as a horror movie than a literary adaptation with supernatural leanings. Kenneth Branagh's third Agatha Christie movie, and his third turn as detective Hercule Poirot, finds Poirot attending a seance in post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve. When another guest is murdered, Poirot begins to delve the shadows for long-buried secrets as he journeys towards the heart of the mystery. [September 15]
Killers of the Flower Moon
Martin Scorsese turns David Grann’s broadly-lauded, best-selling book into a big-screen epic. Set in 1920s Oklahoma, the story depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation. It was a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror. Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone and Robert De Niro lead the cast. [October 6]
The Holdovers
Nobody likes teacher Paul Hunham (Giamatti) -- not his students, not his fellow faculty, not the headmaster, who all find his pomposity and rigidity exasperating. With no family and nowhere to go over Christmas holiday in 1970, Paul remains at school to supervise students unable to journey home. After a few days, only one student holdover remains -- a trouble-making 15-year-old named Angus, a good student whose bad behavior always threatens to get him expelled. Joining Paul and Angus is head cook Mary (Randolph)-an African American woman who caters to sons of privilege and whose own son was recently lost in Vietnam. These three very different shipwrecked people form an unlikely Christmas family sharing comic misadventures during two very snowy weeks in New England. The real journey is how they help one another understand that they are not beholden to their past-they can choose their own futures. [November 22]
Napoleon
Napoleon is a spectacle-filled action epic that details the checkered rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Oscar®-winner Joaquin Phoenix. Against a stunning backdrop of large-scale filmmaking orchestrated by legendary director Ridley Scott, the film captures Bonaparte's relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine, showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed.
